Gris-Gris are used in vodoun as charms for good luck or to ward off evil. Originally they were dolls or images of Gods, but now they are small cloth bags filled with herbs, etc gathered under the direction of a particular god and meant to protect the wearer and owner.
Gris-Gris could also be used to cause someone to have bad luck.
